Capsule Introduces DataCaptor™ 6.0

Andover, Mass.,  March 11, 2009— Capsule (www.capsuletech.com), the leading provider of  medical device connectivity, announced the release of DataCaptor™ 6.0, the latest version of the  software component of its Open Architecture Connectivity Solution for more than 350 hospitals and healthcare organizations worldwide.

New features have been added to Capsule’s DataCaptor software to provide improved performance, better delivery of patient data for more streamlined clinical workflow, and easier configuration of the software.

“We’ve added some important new features to DataCaptor based on feedback from our customers,” said Mark Morwood, Vice President of Product Development at Capsule.  “DataCaptor 6.0 gives clinicians even more reliable access to patient data delivered from medical devices to the EMR and more customization features for easy configuration and plug and play connectivity capabilities by administrative staff.  We’ll continue to listen to our customers to ensure they have a simple and efficient way to get timely patient data automatically into their EMRs to both improve clinical workflow and increase patient safety.”

DataCaptor 6.0 New Features

Improved Performance
DataCaptor 6.0 includes architectural changes enabling improved performance for both small and large installations.  DataCaptor 6.0 can easily scale down to support small single department or bedside implementations, and scale up to support enterprise wide deployments in the largest multi-hospital institutions. DataCaptor 6.0 includes optimized support for the latest x86 based server architectures.

Data Buffering
DataCaptor 6.0 introduces additional fault tolerance features, with support for HL7 based acknowledgements, ensuring that no data is lost in the event of either network outages, or planned or unplanned EMR downtime.  This is completely configurable through the DataCaptor Management Console; the administrator can activate, deactivate, or cancel buffering. The administrator can also set the amount of allowable disk space, the number of times a message is resent before being sent to an error log, and the amount of time the receiving system can send an Application Accept before the sending system resends its message.

Administrative Alerts
A new feature in 6.0 supporting improved availability for the end-user is administrator alerts. If the system detects a disconnected or offline terminal server, an email alert is sent to the administrator who can then go to their DataCaptor Management Console software to troubleshoot the problem.  Though these email alerts save biomeds and administrators valuable time, because they are alerted of an issue immediately instead of finding out about an issue when the nurse goes to chart.  The key benefit is to reduce the possibility of lost medical device data in the event of undetected connectivity issues.

Enhanced Data Management
DataCaptor 6.0 now allows administrative users to further customize the data made available to the EMR.  This is achieved via an advanced filtering tool that is integrated within the DataCaptor Interface Server. This tool allows user configuration directly within the DataCaptor Management Console.   Available customizations include:
• Variable selection and sampling rates
• Restricting aperiodic data transmission
• Mapping variable, channel, node and source identifiers
• Mapping values and defining decimal rules
• Unit translation
• Filtering non-significant values

DIM Identifier Programming
To enhance plug and play connectivity, DataCaptor 6.0 includes a new device identification layer to provide seamless connection, swapping and re-connection of medical devices without any reconfiguration of software. In addition, the DIM identifier provides users with a way to quickly locate device connectivity issues.
